WPL Schedule 2025
The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 auction took place in Bengaluru on December 15, at the prestigious ITC Gardenia. This event allowed the five WPL teams to strengthen and fine-tune their squads ahead of the upcoming season. A total of 19 player slots were filled during the WPL 2025 mini-auction, including five overseas players, from a pool of 120 cricketers—comprising 91 Indian and 29 foreign players.
The WPL 2025 auction had a base price range starting from ₹10 lakh, going up to a maximum of ₹50 lakh. Prominent names in women’s cricket, such as West Indian all-rounder Deandra Dottin, England captain Heather Knight, and New Zealand pacer Lea Tahuhu, were among the players in the auction.
Deandra Dottin was acquired by the Gujarat Giants for ₹1.70 crore, while Simran Shaikh became the most expensive player at the auction, bought by Gujarat Giants for ₹1.90 crore. Anshu Nagar, the 13-year-old left-arm seamer, was the youngest player in the WPL 2025 auction, but she went unsold. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians signed G Kamalini, a 16-year-old all-rounder, for ₹1.60 crore.
Notably, Smriti Mandhana remains the most expensive player in WPL history. She was bought by Royal Challengers Bengaluru for ₹3.40 crore at the WPL 2023 auction and played a crucial role in her team’s title win in 2024. Similarly, Ashleigh Gardner (Australia) and Nat Sciver-Brunt (England), both acquired for ₹3.20 crore each by Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians respectively, continue to hold the record as the highest overseas buys in the WPL.
This auction reflects the growing women’s cricket market and sets the stage for an exciting WPL 2025 season, with teams now better positioned to compete at the highest level.
